Long-time power.

Deep cycle gel batteries are quite suitable for marine and other applications when there's a need for long-time power.
These batteries are maintenance-free, gas-tight, and leak-free and can even be mounted in any position, except upside-down. However, upright is the best position.


What battery capacity do you need?

Battery capacity means how many hours the battery can deliver a quantity of power, indicated in Ah (Ampere hours).

How many Ah your gel battery should have, depends on the consumption of the connected devices/appliances.

So first, you need to figure out:
- which devices do I want to supply with battery power,
- what is the wattage of these devices,
- how many hours per day will I use them at the same time.

Example of assumed power usage:
Device 1 has a wattage of 20 watts, usage: 3 hours = 60 Wh
Device 2 has a wattage of 40 watts, usage: 2 hours = 80 Wh
Device 3 has a wattage of 1100 watts, usage: 0.2 hours = 220 Wh
Total = 360 Wh
Therefore, you need 30 Ah of battery energy per day. (360 Wh / 12 V) to use these devices.

However, because you don't want to discharge the battery too far, choose a battery capacity that is three times the required energy, which means a 90Ah battery. (30 Ah x 3)


Discharge / Recharge of the gel battery.

The batteries can be deeply discharged. To be on the safe side it is recommended that you don't go beyond a discharge of 70%.
If you don't use the battery for a longer time it is advised to charge the battery once a month.

What charger do you need?

Use a charger with the correct voltage and charging current. For example, for a 100Ah gel battery, you should use a charger with an Ah between 15 - 25 Ah (charger's Ah should be 15-25% of the battery capacity).
