Prepaid Cellular Phones: How it works

PREPAID wireless has NO contracts, that is one of the best features of PREPAID wireless. You simply add airtime as you need it. If you stop
adding airtime to your phone then the cellular phone will simply go "inactive".

No contract means NO commitment or agreement at all. Also, many PREPAID cellular phones can actually be converted to "post pay" with the same carrier at a later time.
All you need is a cellular phone and a service provider.

When/Why to use a prepaid cell phone?

- if you want a cellular phone for occasional use - e.g. when   traveling or for safety reasons - but don't want to pay a monthly   service fee or enter a long-term agreement, or
- if you want to budget your cellular phone use, or
- having credit issues, or
- not feeling comfortable providing information for a carrier credit   check, or
- if want to give your children a cellular phone, but you want to   control/budget the phone usage. or
- if you are looking for a gift

Prepaid cell telephones can be attractive because there are:
- no contracts
- no credit checks
- no monthly bills

Choosing a Prepaid Cell Phone / Service

Only purchase cellular phones and/or recharge minutes that appear as available in your Zip code!

If your ZIP code matches you will be able to activate a local phone number. Most PREPAID cell telephones actually work nationwide, but using the Zip Code search insures you can be issued a local phone number when activating a new prepaid cellular phone. Check the "coverage area" to find out the coverage of the service you are interested in prior to purchase!

Prepaid calling rates are higher than plan rates, so if you're a regular caller or think you're going to make many calls, you might go for a cell phone with a plan. Click here for information on plans with a popular cell phone.

Prepaid Cell Phones Airtime

New cellular phones come with an initial number of airtime minutes. Those minutes are used up as you are placing and receiving calls with your cellular telephone.

When all minutes are used you buy more prepaid airtime minutes (recharge) by dialing a toll-free number on your cellular phone.
The purchased minutes are credited to your account - programmed (added) in your cellular phone - and are then automatically deducted when you make calls.

Prepaid Phone Cards Info

Prepaid wireless services require that you purchase some amount of recharge minutes and add them to your phone within a specific timeframe, usually 30 to 90 days.
Be sure to know how often you must load new minutes.
When you approach the end of the your minutes, you probable receive an automated warning. Using your cellular phone, you can also check your prepaid account to see how many minutes you have left.

If the service includes voice mail, it can be very useful to let it pick up the call; then use a landline to check the message and not incur any airtime charges.

How to get your new cellular phone number assigned and activate your cell phone

When you receive your new phone you will also receive your activation instructions. You will dial a toll free number to activate the prepaid cell phone and at that time you will be assigned the local cellphone number you desire.

A local cell telephone number can only be assigned in your area when the product appears after completing a Zip Code search. This is especially important when purchasing a phone AS A GIFT.

Make sure that the area you wish the cellphone to be assigned a local number, is also available in addition to your billing address Zip Code.
Activation is free unless otherwise noted with the product.
