What are prepaid phone cards, calling cards, prepaid phonecards?

You are buying calling minutes in advance - therefore it's also called prepaid phone card - and

have that calling time at your disposal whenever you want to make a phone call.
You only pay for the calls you make. There is no monthly fee,
no extra taxes, no peak hours charge.

What is an Instant Online Phone Card?
An Instant Online Phonecard is simply a prepaid phonecard that can be purchased instantly online. Once purchased, your phonecard is delivered by email instantly. Using the dialing instructions in the email, you can start calling immediately.
The savings generated using a phonecard as opposed to your normal longdistance carrier can be considerable.

How to use Instant Online PhoneCards
To use your instant phonecard follow the dialing instructions you received with your purchase or use the instructions sent to you via e-mail. Phonecards generally follow this format:

To make a call you dial the indicated 800 number or your local access number provided in the dialing instruction,
enter your phonecard PIN and then dial the number you want to call.
- for domestic calls: dial area code + number
- for international calls: dial 011 + country code + city code + number

Before you purchase any local access card, check and make sure the phonecard you want to buy works in your area by checking this on the web site where you buy.

Which Phone Card is best for me?
It depends on your calling habits. If you typically make frequent and shorter calls (less than 10 minutes), or tend to get a lot of answering machines, you are better off with a card that has no connection fees (surcharge). In general, these phone cards usually have a higher per minute rate then phone cards that have connection fees.

If your calls average over 10 minutes, a card with connection fees is probably better for you because that surcharge is spread out over several minutes.
Example:
               Phone Card: 3.9¢/min. rate + 49¢ surcharge
         Avg. Call Length: 10 minutes
Actual Cost per Minute = ((.039 x 10) + .49) / 10
                                  = $0.088 per minute
