Info about synchronizing data on your computer and iOS devices via WiFi

Sync is an abbreviation of synchronize, meaning to copy data to and from more than one device and manage that data there. For example iPhone WiFi sync means you synchronize data form your PC to iPhone or from your iPhone to your PC. The Data you can sync is music, audiobooks, podcasts, iTunes U content, bookmarks, applications, contacts, calenders, movies, TV shows, notes, books, documents, and ringtones.
WiFi or Wi-Fi is a wireless connection with internet through a Wi-Fi network.





Set up.

If you want to set up syncing - synchronisation WiFi iPhone - or other iOS device, and use Wi-Fi syncing - also written as WiFi sync - you need iTunes version 10.5 or later and iOS 5 or newer version.
You have to install mentioned iTunes 10.5 or later, on your pc.

To sync with WiFi you need to open iTunes on your PC, connect your iPhone to your PC with the USB cable that came with your iPhone.
In 'Devices' in iTunes choose iPhone - it is on the left hand side. Then in the 'Summary' tab, choose the option: 'Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi.

Now, when everything went right, your iPhone will appear in iTunes so you can synchronize it. To synchronize your iOS device you can choose the content tabs in iTunes and configure the syncing options.
Then click 'Apply' or 'Sync' to synchronize your iPhone or whatever iOS device you want to sync.

Syncing goes automatically when the following has been met:
Your iPhone or other device is plugged in to power, is on the same WiFi network as your PC and iTunes is active on your PC.


Synchronisation iPhone problem?
It may occur that your iPhone doesn't show up in the 'Devices' section in iTunes or may be you can't synchronize.
It that happens to you then do the following checks:
  • Be sure your iOS device operates under iOS 5 or newer and your PC has iTunes 10.5 or newer, and operates under OS X Lion / Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or operates under Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  • Check USB cable connection between your iOS device and your PC and that you checked the "Sync with this iOS device over Wi-Fi" option in iTunes.
  • Re-activate iTunes on your computer and restart your iPhone.
  • Disconnect the power cord of your home network router for 30 seconds.
  • Verify connection between your router and computer and may be other devices you want to sync to.
  • Make sure the firewall of your router or PC doesn't hinder communication.
